We Are Not Members

According to Mayour Cindy Rosenthal, the City of Norman and she are not and have never been members of either the US Conference of Mayors or the ICLEI.

Cindy made this statement in several different ways at the Norman City Council meeting Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Municipal Building, 201 W. Gray, Norman, Oklahoma. She made these statements in front of the Council, as well as hundreds of residents of Norman. A record of her statements was made by the video recording devices installed in the meeting room, and can be viewed online (between the 15:20 and 20 minute marks).

For the nay-sayers, an exact quote at 17:11: ""I don't know anything about the ICLEI or whatever.... We are not members of the US Conference of Mayors". And at 17:45: "So, the ICLEI and the US Conference of Mayors has no influence on this council regarding the Water Conservation Plan?" No. Is that correct? No. None whatsoever? No."

Perhaps she didn't specifically address the "now or at any time" question, but we can infer that from the outstanding reputation in public service that she has built. No one of her stature and impeccable taste would ever associate with communist organizations. I just can not and will not believe that to be the case.

I'm a little surprised she hasn't heard of or know anything about the ICLEI, a known communist front organization for the UN, with all of her municipal government background and political science expertise, but we can chalk that up to the consequence of the burdens of the high office she holds.

The residents of Norman need to clear Cindy's good name as well as the City of Norman's reputation. We must protest these allegations of membership and collusion with communist organizations. It is time for the residents of Norman to stand up and be counted!

Several attendees of the meeting were overheard muttering after the meeting such vitriol as "utter lies", "complete falsehood", "she lied through her teeth" concerning her statements. If we do not stand up for Cindy, who will?

"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin," thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"

`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
Alice didn't think that proved it at all; however, she went on `And how do you know that you're mad?'
`To begin with,' said the Cat, `a dog's not mad. You grant that?'
`I suppose so,' said Alice.
`Well, then,' the Cat went on, `you see, a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad.'"
